Built in 1896, the Mohican Hotel was originally constructed to house Frank Munsey’s printing presses to print inexpensive magazines the working class could afford. By 1898, the building transformed into a hotel and shortly thereafter became one of the finest hotels in Connecticut.  The building is steel-framed, a new technology for that era, and was designed by William B. Tuthill, the famed New York architect who also designed Carnegie Hall. This 11-story tower put some urban heft into the city’s skyline. Today, the modern Mohican is home to senior residents.
