Baltimore Sports Facilities Renovations

Home to Baltimore’s professional sports teams, M&T Bank Stadium and Camden Yards host millions of people each year. To maintain a pleasing and safe environment for the fans, the facilities undergo routine maintenance.

With a fully stocked warehouse less than a mile from the stadiums, Kenseal Construction Products is easily accessible. Supporting Growth in Raleigh

In order to support efforts for the expansion of mass transit in North Carolina’s central region, Raleigh Union Station is under construction. The station will act as a multi-modal transit center connecting passengers to various transportation services. This facility is expected to alleviate congestion and land development concerns and provide a transportation hub to assist in revitalizing downtown Raleigh and its Warehouse District. The station is on schedule to be fully operational in early 2018.

Kenseal Construction Products, A Division of AH Harris had the opportunity to support this project by supplying specialty construction materials to multiple contractors in the Raleigh area. With a centrally located warehouse and multiple delivery vehicles, the Kenseal team, under the direction of James Clark, Outside Sales Representative with assistance from our AH Harris partners, fully supported our valued customers.

Starting with sitework, Kenseal provided #4 and #5 Rebar sticks to reinforce the concrete structure. From there, the team then supplied Pecora 890, Pecora 895 and Emseal Expansion Joints for the curtain wall.

The Raleigh Union Station structure, platforms and parking facilities are also required to meet all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. Kenseal offers a variety of products to fulfill ADA regulations. For this particular project, our team supplied ADA Solutions, Inc. Tiles, which are tactile warning surfaces.

Overall, Kenseal, alongside its partner AH Harris, have the specialty construction materials you need – Division 3, Division 7 and more. We pride ourselves on having what you need, when you need it!

Us and Dr. Jones

Nearly forty years after her time as a professor of biochemistry and zoology at the University of Carolina Chapel Hill completed, Mary Ellen Jones’ research building is being renovated to include energy efficient amenities and a wide replacement of its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

While Dr. Jones’ research consisted mainly of DNA, RNA, and the habits of cancer cells, we’re confident that the biochemistry behind our silicone sealants would have also fascinated her. The products used were:

Pecora 890NST: Non-Staining, Ultra-Low Modulus Architectural Silicone Sealant
Pecora 895NST: Non-staining, Structural Silicone Glazing and Waterproofing Sealant
Tremco Spectrem 1: high-performance, single-component, moisture-cure, ultra low modulus silicone sealant.
Tremco Spectrem 2:  a high-performance, single-component, neutral-cure, medium-modulus silicone sealant.
Wr Meadows LMP air barrier and air shield accessories: a water-based air/liquid moisture barrier that cures to form a tough, seamless, elastomeric membrane.

The building’s redesign benefits the biochemistry and future medical students at UNC Chapel Hill that will be using it the most. Kenseal consistently supports education and the environment in which students can thrive. In particular, we support strong researchers and educators like Dr. Jones. We are proud to list this job among our other impressive projects for providing a better and brighter future.

Come to the Wharf, the Water is Fine

While a mile-long waterfront development full of cafes, cobblestone promenade, and public parks certainly sounds fun, it also poses an interesting challenge in proper protection. The last thing anyone enjoying a concert or walking on the boardwalk in this new Wharf District community wants to worry about is the integrity of where they stand. In conjunction with Baltimore Waterproofing, Kenseal worked to ensure that no one will have to question if the water’s damages will affect their night; our products make sure of it.

To keep everyone’s fun going, Kenseal supplied top-line products that properly protect The Wharf and its surroundings. Preprufe 300R Plus, a heavy-duty adhesive designed to accept heavy reinforcements, and Bituthene 3000, a durable and flexible waterproof membrane, were supplied to secure the area.

This 400-foot District Pier, “the first of its kind in the city” , will provide new bustling activity to D.C.’s Southwest quadrant. Kenseal’s products will make sure it stays protected.

Calling Dr. Kenseal: Clio Medical Center Waterproofed

CaWellness is a core component of Kenseal’s culture. Whether it be our internal wellness program or our contributions to buildings dedicated to wellbeing, we strive to support healthy lifestyles in the communities in which we live and work. Recently Kenseal had the opportunity to support the construction of the Clio Medical Center: a new “micro-hospital” that will offer discounted surgeries with the same level of expertise expected from local health care facilities. While a bit smaller (35-beds as opposed to the nearby 328-bed hospital), Clio still projects performing near “2,000 operations in Lancaster during its first year”. Clio CEO Joseph Frank predicts, “this is going to have a pretty dramatic impact on health care.”

To support this project, Kenseal supplied Henry Airbloc 31, a flexible, mold-resistant, rubberized membrane that can be applied to a variety of surfaces and withstand a wide range of temperatures, as well as all of its accessories. Even though hospital conditions are rather consistent, this product will protect from weather damages, extreme conditions, and retains a tough exterior for the building. With a mighty product like this, this hospital will not have to fear inconsistent building protection or hard damages.

An important and ongoing project, the Clio Medical Center building needs to be safe and fully operational for the people in the area. So Kenseal was a sound choice to provide the best products and service possible to achieve these results.

Improving the Environment for Education at Guilford Middle

When ground broke for the construction of the new Guilford Middle School in Greensboro, North Carolina, students were only dreaming of a new building to call their “home away from home”. The existing building, which has stood since 1987, had grown tired and in need of repairs. Now graduated student Santiago Garcia-Rico recalled that in the sixth grade building, “there were leaks…and cracks everywhere.”

Through Mecklenburg Restoration and Kenseal Construction Products, future students (whom Garcia-Rico reminds are lucky to enjoy this new building) won’t have to worry about this. Kenseal worked closely with Mecklenburg Restoration to offer exceptional service and supply them with some of the best materials in the industry to ensure moisture protection for the entire building, including:

BASF Enershield HP: “a one component fluid-applied vapor permeable air/ water-resistive barrier based on Silica Fortified Rubber chemistry”
BASF Enershield Fil: “A one-component, water-based block filler based on Silica Fortified Rubber TM chemistry”

BASF Enershield Sheathing 6” x 180’ rolls: “Reinforced non-woven polyester fabric designed for use with Enershield-HP or Enershield-I air/water-resistive barriers by BASF Corporation – Construction Systems”

Thanks to our products and services, the students of Guilford Middle will be able to focus on their education and success. We agree with principal Patrice Brown when she says that this new building will “give students a sense of pride…and what they deserve.” Go Tigers!

Updating the Charlotte Motor Speedway

Every May, 200,000 race fans travel to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for 2 weeks, watching miles of exciting, tailgate-flying action! We have been fortunate to work on the Charlotte Motor Speedway with our valued customer, Queen City Waterproofing, over the years to ensure it is 100 percent watertight!

Recently, Queen City Waterproofing had to update the waterproofing and replace the custom Pecora SilSpan on the speedway. From color selection to installing the custom color, Queen City Waterproofing only had three weeks to perform and complete the work in order to meet the deadline before the Nascar events kicked off for the year.

Kenseal Sales Representative, James Duncan, has worked closely with Lynn Andreason of Queen City Waterproofing over the years and provided superior service to help keep this project running smoothly.

Lynn claims, “getting the materials on time and learning about products I’m not aware of,” is the best part about working with Kenseal and James.

The Monumental City

On July 4, 1815, Baltimoreans envisioned and commenced the first public monument to George Washington, former President of the United States. This National Historic Landmark, an important symbol of the city, had appeared every bit of its age of nearly 200 years with plaster chips and deteriorating mortar.  In 2010, the once leading Baltimore tourist attraction was closed to the public after an engineering study commissioned by the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, declared the monument unsafe for visitors.

Located at the center of one of the most beautiful urban spaces in America, this treasure underwent a multimillion dollar restoration to redeem its prominence in Baltimore tourism.

Kenseal Construction Products is proud to have supported aspects of these repairs. A Kenseal Sales Representative supplied Sikacrete 211 SCC Plus to a valued customer who focuses on historic building restoration and was awarded this project. The Monument is located in our Headquarters and Baltimore location’s backyard and improved our neighborhood’s vitality by reopening a place that people care about and want to visit. We were honored to supply a specialty construction product to help make this happen.

The work, including restoration, repainting, cleaning, waterproofing, electrical work, new lighting and a new fence, was completed on time for the monument’s bicentennial on Independence Day in 2015.

Renewal to Harvard’s Dunster House

The Dunster House was the first undergraduate residence to undergo complete reconstruction as part of Harvard’s comprehensive housing renewal program. Built in 1930, Dunster is one of the oldest of Harvard’s houses and is located on the banks of the Charles River. The new design has expanded the social and common spaces, offering many new amenities for the students.

Located just 6 miles from the Harvard University campus, Kenseal Construction Products was a convenient and reliable choice to supply specialty construction products to the job. Our knowledgeable sales team partnered with key manufacturing reps and offered their industry expertise to multiple subcontractors on the project.

Liam McGowan, Kenseal Sales Representative, and Brian Centofanti, Kenseal Sales Manager, connected with Tom Lane, a manufacturing representative for Prosoco, to supply FastFlash (part of the Prosoco R-GUARD® family) to a valued customer. This liquid flashing membrane offers superior durability, easier installation and can be applied to rough openings of structural walls making it a sound choice for the project and great recommendation by Tom.

In addition, Kenseal Sales Representative, Jeff Fuccillo, helped a valued customer overcome a challenge in their scope of work. The window perimeters required significant joint backing due to the wide range of openings in the masonry. The team needed to find a solution for what would otherwise be challenging and laborious installation. With the help of the Pecora rep, Shaun Wentworth, the team devised a plan involving Pecora’s new XL Span and new Air Vapor Barrier Silicone. Being an extruded pre-cured silicone non-adhesive “tape,” the XL Span spanned all of the irregular openings saving a significant amount of time for our customer.

The WakeMed North Healthplex Expands!

Creating 500 construction jobs and employing 441 full-time people, the WakeMed North Hospital provides a significant boost to the community’s economy.

In 2011, WakeMed broke ground on an expansion project of their North Healthplex creating the fifth hospital in Wake County – WakeMed North Hospital. The full-service hospital is a 248,800 sq. ft., 61-bed women’s hospital designed with the unique needs of women in mind. The hospital also continues to serve men and children through the facility’s existing emergency department and outpatient surgery, rehabilitation, imaging, lab and physicians services.

Kenseal was proud to supply specialty construction products to a loyal customer for this expansion project. Kenseal Sales Representative Becca Turbeville worked closely with SECO Architectural Systems’ moisture control and construction division. With the guidance of a Tremco Commercial Sealants and Waterproofing representative, Kenseal provided the below and above grade waterproofing, insulation and air and vapor barrier.

“Working with Kenseal on the WakeMed North project was a pleasure. I got together with Becca early on and let her know what I anticipated our material requirements to be and she made it happen,” said Tom Wilson, Division Manager Moisture Control, SECO Architectural Systems, Inc., “We worked together to give WakeMed a complete Tremco system above grade. This may have sealed the deal for SECO in getting this very important project. Throughout the project Becca kept up with our material needs and made sure Kenseal had what we needed in stock. I look forward to the next project that we can work together on. Kenseal is SECO’s preferred material supplier in North Carolina!”

Kenseal has what you need, when you need it! Rest assured when you choose Kenseal for your next construction project.
